Social Skills

 Why Social Skills Groups?

Social skills are the foundation for getting along with others. A lack of social skills can lead to behavioral difficulties in school, delinquency, inattentiveness, peer rejection, emotional difficulties, bullying, difficulty in making friends, aggressiveness, problems in interpersonal relationships, poor self-concept, academic failures, concentration difficulties, isolation from peers, and depression.

Children with learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, Asperger’s Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, neurological disorders, and emotional disabilities often need additional training in social skills. They will likely benefit from direct instruction in social skills groups led by trained professionals and the availability of a safe environment in which to practice newly learned skills.

We will help your child build strong and safe relationships with their peers and the adults around them. Of course don’t forget the most important thing! FUN! Your child will have fun, make friends and learn these important life skills that will take them into the future.

If your child is new to our groups we will contact you for an intake interview to ensure that we all understand your child’s specific strengths and program requirements. Kids Matter wants to help your child be the best person they can be in their day to day lives.
